Permaculture
Permaculture (permanent agriculture) is the harmonious integration of landscape and people providing their food, energy, shelter, and other material and non-material needs in a sustainable way. It is also the conscious design and maintenance of agriculturally productive ecosystems which have the diversity, stability and resilience of natural ecosystems. (from Graham Bell)
Our Mission
La Sorga is an ecovillage, based on the principles and ethics of Permaculture, which are:
- Take care of the earth
- Take care of people
- Create abundance and redistribute surpluses
In order to realise these goals, we strive to create an environment where everyone respects one another, the environment and the local community. Decision-making will be conducted openly and we will come together regularly to plan work and events, and where necessary to resolve differences. We appreciate that living together has its challenges and that people will have their differences, but also see that enmity will not help us realise our vision, so we will address conflicts promptly and face to face, seeking to avoid escalations.
Living sustainably and with a degree of self-sufficiency requires know-how, tools and serious effort. To this end, we will use permaculture design principles wherever possible and develop appropriate technology. We will share our knowledge by way of informal demonstration and workshops, both with one another and the local community. We will make or buy, and maintain, the tools and facilities necessary to increase our self-reliance.
We expect to remain dependent on the outside world to some extent, but where possible we will try to use alternative (non-monetary) means of exchange in the local community. We will use external resources responsibly, seeking to use what Nature has provided in our immediate environment of preference.
Finally, in order to thrive La Sorga needs to be a place where people will want to live - we will plan priority work and share duties evenly to ensure all inhabitants have ample time for recreation and reflection, which is essential for a healthy state of mind.
